He did his best to try and guide the steps of his party by slowly advancing his feet forward on the slippery path and tapping his sword against the various stalagmites to “see” the wall edges.Ī pitiful king he was, guiding his flock to the slaughter without any vision. It was during one of those tense moments in darkness that Baldwin noticed he was completely blind without a source of illumination. He noticed it during an expedition in the Cove, trudging through the humid salt soaked cavern swiftly depleted their torches and the expedition was more than once forcing itself through this limit in ressources by letting their current light die down and walking a few meters in the dark before pulling out another one. At first it was only a blur of faraway objects, then the dimming of the edges in his sight and before long Baldwin could not recognize a familiar face more than a few steps away.īut those degradations were not the most worrying. His eyesight had been gradually worsening, slowly but surely. It was not all the fault of the cursed estate. There was a constant heavy cover of clouds masking the Sun, the Leper could not recall the last time he had seen a ray of light ever since he stepped foot into these accursed lands. The Hamlet and its lands were nothing like his homeland. Baldwin was used to the harsh sunlight, the land where he had grown up had long summers where the burning rays scorched the land, forcing the inhabitants of his kingdom to wait out the brightest hours in their homes before they could come out and enjoy their life in the dusk. ![]()
